ASAE's CEO Forecasts 2010 Lobbying Issues

In his ongoing role as a regular contributor to National Journal's Under the Influence blog, John H. Graham IV, CAE, ASAE's president and CEO, predicted that deficit and debt reduction and tax reform would be among the biggest lobbying issues in Congress for 2010, after health care reform is resolved. ??Graham said recurring comments from the White House and Congress suggest universal agreement that deficit-reducing measures must be instituted as the economy recovers. The unsustainable federal spending over the past year, coupled with the budget crises of most states make this a key issue for lobbying organizations in 2010, Graham said.

"With political pressure building to get these deficits under control, tax reform and deficit reduction will become huge lobbying issues in 2010 for a wide range of sectors, including the association and nonprofit communities, because federal and state legislators in desperate need of new revenue raisers could potentially target our community to offset new spending," Graham wrote in his blog post.
