What’s inspiring me?

So what's inspiring me lately?  ....the passing of Steve Jobs is inspiring me, the eulogies about Mr. Jobs and what he meant to all of us.  From what I've read he left behind designs for four generations of iPads, iPhones, iPods, and MacBooks. That's inspiring. [more]

Oops, that didn't copy over...
Oops, that Undo didn't work...
Did I miss something in the process?

As a web developer or programmer, those phrases are what you don't want to have to say when you're in the middle of a task. As a website creator, I've said one or two of them myself. That is until I started practicing using simple text editors to provide a programming "safety net" some years ago. [more]

I recently lambasted AARP for their stance on Social Security (SS).  I reemed 'em. I let me anger sprout wings, the kind one sees only on harpies, night furies, and vampiric creatures.

I didn't hear back.  Is it really a scream if no one responds?

So I went to AARP's web site.  From the web site, they say all the right things about SS. They love it; they want to keep it just the way it is; and, no, it's not up for discussion as far as AARP is concerned.

So, if I learned one thing in 6 years of art school - four years at LSU and another two at UNC, Greensboro - is that we have to unlearn some of the previous 12+ years of formal learning. Let me explain.

We colored outside the lines, drew all over the paper...sometimes on the walls...and had fun drawing spaceships and our future houses. From about 5 years old onward, folks start telling us to color inside of the lines, write neatly and keep those lines straight. Throughout the K-12 years, many of us were conditioned to focus on the .5mm pen or pencil tip writing words on a single line. Our letters became smaller and precise. As a consequence, we lost sight of the larger page. Don't get me wrong...I'm all for good handwriting, but we must also learn how to break out of what we learned from writing, particularly when presenting with PowerPoint. [more]

We've all been there...sitting in a dimly lit room, listening to some guy talk about why we need to upgrade to some system or buy their software. As bulletpoint after bulletpoint whizzes by in what seems to be an endless barrage of slides, we begin to think, "I sure hope the trains are on time today." (Queue the Blackberry.) Once again, we have become victims of a common issue in today's meeting rooms, seminars and sales meetings. Some call it Death by PowerPoint. [more]

So, as a continuation to my previous blog posting about PowerPoint, I think I'd like to pontificate a bit about the technology issues surrounding presenting with PowerPoint. Technology awareness is an essential, yet sometimes overlooked, element of presenting with PowerPoint (or any other A/V software). It's always helpful to be prepared technically because...Tech Happens! [more]
