NYSAE Elects New Officers and Directors at Annual Meeting

Over the past year, the demand for NYSAE's programs and services from the association and nonprofit community continued to increase, reported Carter Keithley, NYSAE chair of the board and president, Toy Industry Association, at NYSAE's Annual Meeting, held at the Doubletree by Hilton Metropolitan Hotel. The Annual Meeting luncheon was sponsored by the Puerto Rico Convention Bureau, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary.

Legislation Proposed To Reform New York's Not-for-Profits Laws

The New York Attorney General's long-awaited legislation to modernize New York’s nonprofit law, along with governance and executive compensation reforms, was introduced in the State Legislature in May.

Similar legislation from New York’s Law Revision Commission was also introduced and legislative hearings held on all the bills at about the same time. Among those testifying was Michael Cooney, of Nixon and Peabody, representing the New York State Bar Association, who represented NYSAE last year on issues involving mutual benefit and 501c(6) organizations.

Managing Association Joint Purchasing Programs without Violating the Antitrust Laws: Lessons from a DOJ Business Review Letter

Trade and professional associations (“associations”) frequently sponsor joint purchasing arrangements on behalf of their members. These programs offer numerous potential benefits, including centralized ordering, volume discounts, efficient warehouse or distribution, and access to products or services at short notice, among other benefits. Although popular with members, joint purchasing programs also can expose the association (and individual members) to potential antitrust risk.

OMB Releases Meetings Protocol

The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) issued new guidance to all federal agencies that acknowledges the need for federal employees to attend mission-related conferences and provides some best practices for approving travel and conference expenses. This new guidance adopts many of the best practices suggested in a meetings protocol that ASAE provided to OMB at its request. ...(read more)

NYSAE mourns the passing extends condolences to the family and friends of Henry Ernstthal, CAE, FASAE, who served as chairman of the NYSAE Board of Directors from 1987-88. At the time, he was the executive director of the Society of Nuclear Medicine.

Jeffrey Fagan, Director, National Accounts, Marriott Hotels, announced that Marriott is introducing Red Coat Direct—a first-of-its-kind app that allows meeting planners to adjust and edit their meeting requests. Red Coat Direct is the first branded hotel app to grant any meeting wish (within reason) from room temperature adjustments, to coffee refills or having lunch served earlier with an additional vegetarian dish.

Michael Cummings, vice president of marketing for Kellen Company, along with representatives from the National Association of Home Builders and the Greater Kansas City Medical Society lead a discussion on Repositioning Your Brand at ASAE’s Marketing, Membership & Communications Conference in Washington, DC.

The Executives’ Association of New York City (EANYC) has chosen Kellen Company to provide association management services, announced Peter Rush, chairman and CEO, Kellen Company.
