NYSAE’s MeetNY is the best hosted buyer-event in the north east and includes education, unequivocal networking, and professional development. The February 28 program began with two hot topic meetings industry educational sessions—Disaster Planning: Are You Serious? and Taking Your Meeting Program Global (see separate stories). Global Travelers Want To Stay Connected And Comfy

Global travelers are looking for a home-away-from-home experience when they stay in a hotel according to the latest research from Hotels.com®. Topping the list of must-have hotel amenities are free Wi-Fi and free food and beverages, with caffeine being a must.

  • 34cent say free Wi-Fi is the number one factor in choosing a hotel, even on leisure stays.
  • 56 percent of respondents said free Wi-Fi was their number one must-have when traveling for business.
  • 66 percent indicated free Wi-Fi is the amenity they most wish would become standard at all hotels in 2013.

It Is Better To Give Than To Receive

A five-year study by researchers at three universities has established that providing tangible assistance to others protects our health and lengthens our lives. This, after more than two decades of research failed to establish that the same benefits accrue to the recipients of such help.

Principal investigator Michael J. Poulin, PhD, assistant professor of psychology at the University at Buffalo, says, “This study offers a significant contribution to the research literature on the relationship between social environment and health, and specifically to our understanding of how giving assistance to others may offer health benefits to the giver by buffering the negative effects of stress.”
