ASAE Launches Applications for 2013–2015 DELP Class

ASAE has opened the call for candidates for the 2013–2015 class of the Diversity Executive Leadership Program (DELP). Deadline to apply is Friday, March 15. DELP is an accelerated leadership program of education and volunteer service in the association community. The Detroit Metro Convention and Visitors Bureau is the exclusive sponsor of DELP.

Candidates who can demonstrate exemplary leadership skills and a commitment to advancing the association community, have at least three years of association management experience or at least one year of experience as an association CEO (as of the date of their application), and are members of a racial/ethnic minority group, lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender or have a disability, are encouraged to apply.

“DELP is a prestigious program that ASAE and Detroit Metro CVB started in order to promote greater visibility and access to a diverse pool of driven and accomplished association professionals as well as provide them with a platform to access new networks and to expand their role in the field of association management,” said ASAE President & CEO John H. Graham IV, CAE. “For the past 12 years, we have been able to develop executive-level talent because of the great support from Larry Alexander of the Detroit Metro CVB and the association community, who see the value in cultivating executive leadership in a more diverse, global society.”

During the 12 years of the DELP program, 29.2 percent of scholars have received their CAEs during their DELP program and 13 percent already had the certification. Twenty-eight percent of DELP scholars are currently in executive/senior management positions including, executive director, deputy executive director, chief information officer, chief financial officer, or vice president. By participating in DELP, 22 percent of scholars received promotions during and after their DELP year(s).

During this two-year program, 12 DELP scholars will experience membership and volunteer service in ASAE; registration to ASAE’s Annual Meeting & Exposition and two other ASAE education programs selected by the DELP scholar, including travel and lodging; waiver of the CAE examination fee; and access to industry leaders who could serve as career coaches or mentors.

Applications and supporting documents must be received at ASAE by 5 p.m. Eastern time. For more information and to see the list of previous DELP scholarship recipients, visit www.asaecenter.org/DELP.
