The December 9 online edition of SmartMoney, published by the Wall Street Journal, included an article by Jason Kephart on "10 Things Nonprofits Won't Tell You." Among the secrets nonprofits are keeping, according to the article, are:
- Fund raising's gone viral;
- Just because we're nonprofit doesn't mean we're saints;
- Even we are cutting back on donations;
- Transparency, shmansparency;
- Our best stat might not tell you a whole lot;
- You're not the only one who made some bad investment decisions last year;
- We'll raise money any way we can;
- Giving globally can sting locally;
- You don't have to be a financial genius to start a nonprofit;
- Good luck taking away our tax-exempt status.
