NYSAE Elects New Officers and Directors at Annual Meeting

“We can all be proud of NYSAE's leadership to the association and not-for-profit community,” said Claire Rosenzweig, CAE, President of the Better Business Bureau of Metropolitan New York. As immediate past chair of NYSAE and chair of NYSAE’s Nominating Committee, Rosenzweig presented the slate of officers and directors, who were unanimously elected at NYSAE’s May Annual Meeting, held at the University Club.

Congratulations to NYSAE’s officers (elected for one-year terms expiring 2013):

  • Chair of the Board: Carter E. Keithley, president, Toy Industry Association;
  • Chair-Elect: Stephen C. Crane, PhD, executive director, American Thoracic Society;
  • Vice-Chair: Lester N. Shafran, LLB, JD, executive director, Independent Payphone Association of New York;
  • Treasurer: Susan Hennig, CTE, sales manager, Eastern USA & Canada, Meetings, Incentives, Conventions & Expositions (MICE), United.

Also elected were the following directors for three-year terms expiring 2015:

  • Barry Melancon, CPA, CGMA, president & CEO, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants;
  • Jeanette Redmond, executive director, Federal Bar Council;
  • Michael L. Weamer, CAE, executive vice president, American Heart Association;
  • James Woehlke, CAE, counsel, MBL Benefits Consulting.

Rosenzweig also presented NYSAE’s Annual Report, giving highlights of the past year. The demand for NYSAE’s programs and services from the association and not-for-profit community continues to increase. The demand for services from the 501-C3 donor based community also continues to grow at an accelerated pace.

“Our Career Development Workshops this year have all experienced excellent reviews from all in attendance,” said Rosenzweig. She noted that the next Career Development Workshop is scheduled May 22 at 11:35 a.m. at the International Council of Shopping Centers, and the topic is Career Decisions in a Changing Job Market. While non-members are invited to attend, this is a free-to-members-program.

The increased interest in InView, NYSAE’s online publication, continues to be well received by both association executives and suppliers. “InView enables NYSAE to continue to utilize technology as a strong vehicle to help promote several NYSAE programs, such as MeetNY, which this year experienced the largest attendance in the show’s four-year history,” said Rosenzweig.

This year’s Industry Holiday Party was attended by more than 350 members and guests, and as usual, NYSAE members and staff have performed magnificently this year.

Said Rosenzweig: “We have come through 93 years of remarkable achievement, weathered the changes besetting our profession, and set ourselves on a course of open-mindedness, flexibility and adaptability. With the continued dedication, participation, and leadership of the members and our professional staff, we are well equipped to meet our mission—to lead in advancing and serving the profession of association and not-for-profit management—in the years ahead.”

Without question, NYSAE is truly the association of associations serving the entire northeast association and not-for-profit community.
