Gregory Boroff was named vice president of development for amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research. As vice president of development, Boroff will oversee amfAR's fundraising programs and take a leadership role in its gala benefits, including its annual Cinema Against AIDS event at the Cannes Film Festival, which raised more than $10 million in 2008. Boroff was previously senior vice president of external relations for the Food Bank For New York City.
Diana Voto, national sales director, Disney Destinations, received her MBA in global business from Fordham University.
The Hawaii Convention Center received the Professional Convention Management Association's (PCMA) Chairman's Award, which honors those that have made a difference in the meetings and convention industry or have contributed in a positive way to setting a course that will favorably affect the travel industry. Recipients are selected by the PCMA chairman of the board.
While the economy is not doing well, and some hotels are worried, the Marriott Residence Inn in Mystic, Connecticut, is not. It is taking this as an opportunity to reinvent the hotel, andre-energize the location with wireless, flat screens, more modern and comfortable amenities. While doing so, they saw nearby town, New London's, homeless shelters fill to the brim while others were forced to close. It also found people with homes, but who were sleeping on bags on the floor. Marriott donated 300+ beds, 285 sleeper sofas or chairs, and 500 floor and table lamps to Front Porch, the New London Homeless Hospitality Center, and the Furniture Bank in Groton. Last year the Waterford Hotel Group, which owns the Mystic Marriott, did the same in Hartford.
