Leveraging Competition to Increase Next Generation Awareness

As a portfolio manager overseeing 29 events/projects for an automotive (auto) trade association's NextGen initiative I have seen varied success.  One program, the SEMA Launch Pad Presented by the Young Executives Network, takes an interesting approach to increasing awareness of "young" membership.  With a strategic goal to reduce the gap between retiring leaders and young professionals we created a business competition.  Attracting the best and brightest young auto entrepreneurs with a new product/service the competition features three evaluation stages designed to raise awareness of their creativity and passion.  Through a variety of mediums including social, digital, print and a live event we engage our membership and position industry veterans to support and mentor these NextGen leaders.  While this is one of many programs we run I am interested to learn if your association or society operates a competitive event to highlight your NextGen leaders.  Additionally, what type of programming do you offer for young professionals / members that delivers high ROI/value?
