With the advent of mobile browsers, organizations have gone through great lengths to make sure their sites are "responsive" or "adaptive" to different sized screens. In fact, many organizations are now thinking mobile first, or, at least, mobile and desktop at the same time. Yet, stats for some organizations still show a hefty amount of traffic through regular old desktop computers. And while a good percentage of folks use tablets to visit their favorite websites, I wonder if designing for tablets too is absolutely necessary or if the regular desktop layout - when viewed on tablet - just slightly smaller - is sufficient.
What has been your organization's approach to handling the variance in desktop vs. tablet vs. mobile phone?
