Based on the unique executive structure of not-for-profit organizations, the board of directors is responsible for the overall mission-related strategies, the ceo or executive director implements the mission-oriented strategies through their staff, and the coo leads the executive management team and develops a performance culture among a talented pool. Often in the case if small nonprofits, professional societies or charitable organizations, the executive director oversees a small group of gifted directors and staff without a coo and sometimes even without an assistant executive director. Regardless of the structure of your nonprofit, the goal is to create a collaborative group that is accountable. Why is the HOW just as important as the WHAT when implementing a business strategy? Annette Homan, CAE, brings more than 30 years’ experience from both for-profit and not-for-profit organizations. She joined the Risk and Insurance Management Society Inc. (RIMS) in 2009. In her role as the Chief Operating Officer, she oversees the alignment of the day-to-day operations of the Society with the overall mission, goals and strategy as set forth by the Board of Directors, and the Executive Council. Annette leads a team of departmental heads to ensure the efficient and prompt execution of all duties and responsibilities and serves as an integral part of the executive management team.
Prior to joining RIMS, Annette was the Director of Professional and Technical Portfolios for the American Management Society (AMA). In that capacity she led the development of new programs, collaborated with subject matter experts to enhance existing programs, streamlined operational processes and managed a team of portfolio managers to ensure consistency of established processes, procedures, policies and quality standards. Previously, Annette was a Vice President of Learning and Development for the U.S. Trust Company, one of the oldest trust companies in the nation. And she spent the first 11 years of her career as a Training Supervisor at the Dreyfus Corporation, one of the nation’s leading mutual fund companies. Annette has a BS in Business Administration from the New York Institute of Technology.

Open to chief executives of philanthropic organizations, professional societies or trade associations (i.e., full time CEO, COO, executive director, vice president, director level, board member). Participation is free as a membership benefit of NYSAE. Guests may attend two SIG meetings and are then invited to join NYSAE.
The Executive Women in Nonprofits provides an opportunity for women in leadership roles to engage in interactive high-level discussions with like-minded peers. EWIN’s goal is to build relationships, test new ideas, receive feedback, and inspire one another. Together we face the challenges of managing our careers by sharing practices from multiple perspectives.
