NYSAE Elects New Officers and Directors at Annual Meeting

   

“We can all be proud of NYSAE's leadership to the association and not-for-profit community,” said Claire Rosenzweig, CAE, and President & CEO of the Better Business Bureau of Metropolitan New York. As immediate past chair of NYSAE and chair of NYSAE’s Nominating Committee, Rosenzweig presented the slate of officers and directors, who were unanimously elected at NYSAE’s May Annual Meeting, held at the University Club.

The Changing Regulatory Landscape For New York Associations

 

Charitable nonprofits (such as colleges and universities, hospitals and nursing homes, museums and foundations, usually tax-exempt under Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3)), are commonly publicly-funded through donations and government contracts. They also have the benefit of numerous state tax and other incentives to sustain their activities. As a result, they merit a high level of governmental oversight.

Today, successful meeting and event producers live in the impact zone. Our role in the new normal has transitioned from traditional meeting professionals to meeting and event curators. Ed Dramberger, national account executive with the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau, joined NYSAE in 2009 as an associate member because he wanted to learn new strategies from other members on association management and meeting planning. He took the plunge, volunteering right away by joining the NYSAE Marketing Committee, where he felt he could utilize his skills to support the organization with its goals and objectives.

Associations and nonprofits have just as much, if not more, incentive to attract attention from journalists as for-profits do, because they speak for their profession, industry, or cause. While associations may not have the teams of public relations professionals that many larger corporations have, they can help busy journalists find the information they need quickly with a robust online newsroom, thus increasing journalists’ interest in their organizations.

An association’s brand must succinctly convey who we are through colors, images, and text, communicate our missions and visions clearly to all our stakeholders, and be consistent throughout all our marketing and communication channels. The New York Society of Association Executives’ (NYSAE) May Communications Institute on The ABCs of Rebranding presented industry experts who shared their knowledge and offered case studies on how to relaunch, protect, and measure an organization’s brand. Held at New York’s University Club, the program was organized by Lauren Beneri, account executive at Kellen Company, and a member of NYSAE’s Education Committee.

Digital Disparities Still Remain

 

One-in-five adults do not use the Internet, according to the Pew Internet Project of the Pew Research Center. The difference between that group and the majority of Americans who do go online remains strongly correlated with age, education, and household income, which are the strongest positive predictors of Internet use.
