Despite the unsavory weather, the 10th Meet NY took place at the Marriott Marquis in Midtown Manhattan. Starting the day, attendees were able to participate in two dynamic educational sessions. The first session, entitled Crisis Management: Disciplined Approach and Human Factors Enhance Success, was presented by USS Cole Commander Kirk Lippold, US Navy (Ret.). The commander shared a heart-pounding reenactment of that dreaded day when the naval ship was terrorized in Yemen’s Aden harbor and how training and ability to push out the crisis timeline helped through the unimaginable crisis.

Following the commander was a seminar entitled Point/Counterpoint: Two Industry Lawyers Discuss How Event Contracts Are Changing in Today’s World. The presentation was given by Barbara Dunn O’Neal, Partner, Barnes & Thornburg, LLP and Lisa Sommer Devlin, Attorney – Devlin Law Firm, P.C. The presenters shared an array of contract “gotchas” around clauses, Force majeure, Assuming a Duty, GDPR, and other contract considerations.

As the educational component of the day concluded, attendees headed over to the Reception, Silent Auction and Trade Show. While there, attendees met with the hospitality hosts, including very large hotels, convention and visitors bureaus, and other suppliers. The silent auction, always a popular draw, raised money for America’s VetDogs.

Once the trade show concluded, attendees and their guests were wowed by a, simply put, dazzling Broadway show – “Hello, Dolly!” at the Shubert Theater. Nothing but applause was in order as the company “brought the house down…”

NYSAE would like to thank the hosts, suppliers, presenters, sponsors, attendees and the Meet NY committee for their contributions to making Meet NY the “Best Hosted Buyer Event in the Northeast.” We look forward to continuing the tradition next year, when NYSAE marks its 100th Anniversary.
