Board Profile The following is an example of a Board Profile that focuses on diversity. In creating a profile for your board, you may want to consider different elements of diversity than those used in the second paragraph below. The goal is to consider descriptors that align with your industry and organization and that will provide for maximum diversity. Although the profile below does not refer to specific demographics (sex, sexual orientation, gender, ethnicity, etc.), some board profiles do.

The XYZ association board is responsible for setting the strategic direction of the Association and Association policy, fiscal and otherwise. In order to ensure a strong vibrant organization relevant to the XYZ industry, and one that can effectively [insert the core purpose of the association], it is imperative that a diverse Board is in place to lead the organization.

As part of the nominating process, Board diversity is to be evaluated. In considering diversity, elements such as the following may be considered: industry segment; membership category/type/ size; background and experience of individual Board members; and, functional expertise of individual Board members. Ultimately, the goal is to formulate a board that is reflective of the community.
