Greg David, Director of the business journalism program at the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism and columnist for Crain’s New York Business, spoke at NYSAE’s October Luncheon on The Booming New York Economy. David noted that that despite the tens of thousands of new jobs, a plummeting unemployment rate, and record numbers of New York City residents working, there is something very different about this expansion compared with others in the city's modern history. The Gideon Putnam has been honored by Meetings Focus for the second time, winning the outlet’s Best of the East Award. Located in Saratoga Springs, New York, the Gideon Putnam has been serving both leisure and business travelers since 1935.Each year, Meetings Focus recognizes the best of the best in hospitality letting the users, made up of planners who hold events globally, review the best hotels and resorts for meetings and events in North America. The properties are judged on the quality of meeting space, guest rooms, services and amenities, food and beverage, tech and bandwidth support, recreational facilities/activities, helpfulness of staff, and overall value and experience.

 

Guiding Eyes for the Blind received $64,000 to provide medical care to guide dogs, and the New York Academy of Medicine received $135,000 for a research fellowship focused on preventing, treating, and rehabilitating hip fractures from the New York Community Trust. The Trust recently awarded 84 grants totaling $8.7 million to local and national nonprofits.
