Gina Ryan is an association management consultant whose firm CEO PATHWAYS / Creative Executive Options specializes in services to CEO’s, board members, and senior staff of primarily national and international organizations in the non-for-profit arena. Her hands-on experience in directing nonprofit organizations -- chiefly in the science, health and social services sectors -- extends to over twenty-five years.
For three years, Gina Ryan served a term as executive director and CEO of the Society of Women Engineers, a national engineering organization with a social advocacy mission, leading its transition to a more strategic headquarters location, a new model of management operations, and to executive leadership that was more representative of its member constituents.
Ms Ryan also spent ten years (first as associate executive director, then as chief executive) managing the New York State Podiatric Medical Association, a statewide medical sub¬specialty association based in New York. She was the first executive director of the association’s subsidiary foundation, and the initial executive vice president of its preferred provider network. Ms. Ryan served as treasurer of the group's state political action committee, and was a board member of the national PAC as well.
In prior years, Ms. Ryan was interim executive director and associate executive director of the Orange County Health Planning Council, a quasi-governmental nonprofit health systems agency in southern California, where she oversaw public hearings on competing multi million dollar proposals for new hospitals. She conducted one of the earliest (1983) workshops on private sector initiatives in preferred provider organizations for state Medicaid directors and federal health care financing administrators at a Johnson Foundation Health Policy Conference on Health Care Reimbursement. She also led a project evaluating accessibility of regional hospitals to the physically challenged and has served as a consultant to state and regional Medicaid and mental health programs on health policy issues and to the national media about abuses in corporate medicine. She also has experience in both health benefit trust and pension plan administration.
Ms. Ryan has completed terms on section councils for both the Association Management Company and the Finance and Administration Sections of ASAE and for three years served as dean of finance and administration for the School of Association Management at the University of Maryland University College.
A former board member of the New York Society of Association Executives, and a past president of the Conference of Podiatry Executives, her leadership positions include service as a governing board member of the American Association of Engineering Societies, governing councilor of the American Public Health Association, a director of the Orange County Employee Benefit Council, and chair of the Traffic Commission for the City of Tustin (CA). A graduate of both St. Louis University (MSW) and Marquette University (BA), she has also taken certificate courses in urban planning at the University of California Irvine, and holds the Certified Association Executive (CAE) designation from ASAE.
